7 Days of Smooches Challenge: Day 7 MAC Rebel Lipstick

First of all…  Happy Valentine’s Day, my lovelies!!! May your Valentine’s Day be full of lots smooches and yummy chocolate!

Getting onto the important stuff… I spent the last 7 days torturing my husband by smooching him with various lipsticks, tints, tinted balms, stains, etc. to find out which products are the most kissable. I saved MAC Lipstick Rebel ($15) for last because it’s the lipstick I’ve been wearing pretty consistently for the past few months for all my nights out. I also saved the Rebel for last because I feared it would stain my poor hubby’s lips, putting a dramatic halt to our challenge.

This semi-matte lipstick drops a ton of berry-borderline-deep-fuchsia pigment leaving my lips lacquered through several hours of drinks, food, and chatting. I have to say that I get asked, “What lipstick are you wearing?” the most when I’m wearing the MAC Rebel (no wonder it’s one of MAC’s bestsellers).  Does it actually “condition” my lips as advertised? Well… not really. I certainly wouldn’t call it a moisturizing lipstick but it’s a highly pigmented semi-matte so I didn’t expect miracles. It certainly doesn’t dry out my lips. And, like a good girl I always follow the cardinal rule of exfoliating and moisturizing my lips prior to application.

The True Test

I blotted the lipstick and let it set a few minutes before going in for the smooch. My husband looked a little alarmed when he saw the strongly-colored lips coming at him (I’ll admit I was a little afraid too. I didn’t want him showing up to work looking like a drag queen on a walk of shame).  I closed my eyes and kissed him and when I opened my eyes and backed away I couldn’t believe that the lipstick hadn’t stained his lips at all!  I took him into the bathroom to take a closer look. It didn’t look like the lipstick had transferred to his lips from where I was standing, but of course he started wiping his lips with a tissue and was quick to show me the damning evidence.  Whatever.  I didn’t think it was visible to the blind eye.  He could see the disappoint in my face so he leaned in and kissed me again and said, “Honey, I don’t care what you put on your lips. I always want to kiss you.”

The Verdict

For such a deep pigment on a semi-matte I’m giving this one 4 out of 5 smooches.  I had to take away a smooch since my husband was dead set on his position that it left “purple” (Purple my ass. Doesn’t this man know a berry when he sees one?) on his lips.
