Banished to the Beauty Graveyard: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar

This was the fastest banishment (in truth I’m sending it straight back to Sephora) in the beauty graveyard’s history.  Usually I don’t make the Sephora return deadline because I like to give a product up for banishment a few chances. Not with the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar ($18). There has been some buzz around this high-pigment liquid lipstick so I was so excited when I first opened the cute little zippered pouch that came with instructions, a tube, and a lip brush. I bought it in Anime – seriously neon fuchsia since fuchsia is such a hot color for Spring.

Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tar

I carefully read the directions: Apply to moisturized lips with a lip brush, starting at the center of the lips and blending toward the lip line.  No problem. I carefully filled in my lips and let the color set.  First of all, once the color dried it kind of made my lips look like cartoon character lips. Would it have looked different if I chose a different color? Perhaps, but it wouldn’t have really mattered since once the color set my lips felt bone-dry and the product started feathering along the edges.  To make matters worse, after an hour (keep in mind Lip Tar is advertised as “a high-opacity lipstick concentrate with unprecedented longevity”) I kissed my hand (my husband wouldn’t get near me with those bright pink cartoon lips) and the lipstick left a perfect, full mark. Then hours later I ate a spoonful of peanut butter (did I just admit that?) and I was grossed out by the bright pink lipstick left all over the peanut butter spoon.  The only good news? Lip Tar does not contain petroleum or silicone and is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free. So you may end up with dried, feathered lips but at least if you’re a vegetarian you won’t have to worry when the pigment rubs off on your veggie burger.  My advice? Go for a quality long-lasting matte lipstick like Lipstick Queen ‘Sinner’ Lipstick in Hot Rose ($20).

With that… I banish Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar to the dreaded Beauty Graveyard, never to haunt my vanity again!

    Hello Janna
Something called Lip Tar does not have a promising name…thanks for the tip not to try this product even though its vegan which I do love but maybe we should try it on the streets on San Francisco!
