How to Get the Best Looks From Last Night’s Golden Globes
Let me start by saying I was beyond elated that Boyhood and Transparent took home top honors at the Golden Globes last night. Bravo! Bravo! Of course my elation started way before the first gilded award was handed out. Aside from the usual invasion of the boring nude lip, the red carpet screamed Hollywood — just the way I like it! There were sultry smoky eyes, statement red lips, and old Hollywood waves, oh my!
I would be remiss if I didn’t share how to get the best looks of the night:
Amal Clooney’s Makeup
Mrs. Clooney’s makeup was almost as inspiring as her impressive resume. UK Celebrity Makeup Artist Charlotte Tilbury created the look: “I went into today knowing what she likes, so I created a retro beauty look inspired by the silver screen sirens that fits her classic style.” Mission accomplished. She looks absolutely stunning.
Get the Look:
- Charlotte applied Charlotte Tilbury ‘Charlotte’s Magic Cream’ Treat & Transform Moisturizer
to the entire face followed by Charlotte Tilbury ‘Wonderglow’ Instant Soft-Focus Beauty Flash
to create a flawless soft focus and an instant “spotlight” effect, which acted as the perfect base to the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Light Wonder’ Youth-Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation
in 7 Medium.
- Charlotte applied Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte Tilbury ‘The Retoucher’ Conceal & Treat Stick
in 2 Fair and 3 Medium underneath the eye. Rid the face of any unwanted oils with a dusting of Charlotte Tilbury ‘Air Brush Flawless Finish’ Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder
Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder in 2 Medium down the middle of the face only to keep Amal’s skin dewy and fresh.
- Next, Charlotte used Charlotte Tilbury ‘Brow Lift’ Three-Way Shape, Lift & Shade Eyebrow Pencil
to perfect brows and shape the face.
- To bring out the golden highlights in Amal’s eyes, Charlotte applied the pop shade from Charlotte Tilbury ‘Luxury Palette – The Dolce Vita’ Color-Coded Eyeshadow Palette
across the lids. Charlotte Tilbury ‘Rock ‘n’ Kohl’ Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil
was applied around the eye. To soften the liner, Charlotte Tilbury ‘The Classic’ Eye Powder Pencil
was applied over the top. Charlotte applied three coats of Charlotte Tilbury ‘Full Fat Lashes’ 5 Star Mascara
to the top lashes and only one coat to bottom lashes to create an open-eyed look.
- Charlotte used Charlotte Tilbury ‘Filmstar Bronze & Glow’ Face Sculpt & Highlight
to highlight and sculpt the cheek, nose, jawline and temples.
- To create the perfect cheek, Charlotte used Charlotte Tilbury ‘Cheek to Chic’ Swish & Pop Blush
across the cheekbones.
- Finish with the perfect velvety red lip by using Charlotte Tilbury ‘Lip Cheat’ Re-Size & Re-Shape Lip Liner Savage Rose along with Charlotte Tilbury ‘K.I.S.S.I.N.G’ Lipstick Night Crimson .
Perfect Summer Look: Just a Little Pop of Color…
Summer is here which means as temperatures rise so do the chances of your makeup melting, fading, settling into creases, and sliding off your face. So not only should you be changing your skincare regimen (unless you’re ultra-dry, swap out your usual creams for lightweight lotions) you’re going to want to downsize your makeup routine.
This summer I’ve found that just by adding a fun-colored eyeliner to my upper lash line I’ve created an instant “going out” look. Keep in mind I have lash extensions, so you should follow with your favorite mascara. To make sure your liner lasts the night, prime your eyelids first with concealer and/or a flesh or ivory-colored eye shadow like Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow Ivory ($21).
Let’s see some COLOR!!!
Green Eyeliner:
As you can see, Hayden Panettiere rocks this emerald eyeliner, making her green eyes glow. This color is perfect for both green and hazel eyes, but also makes blues eyes look more teal. I personally have dark blue eyes and I’ve been wearing the Palm Leaf (a forest green) of the Paul & Joe Las Palmas Eyeliner & Crayon Duo ($25), which makes my eyes look brighter and take on a more aqua hue.
For a bit more drama like January Jones, use a liquid green liner like MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Liner 4 Diamond Lagoon Green ($23) to make a thick winged eye, and then line the lower lash line with a shimmery green shadow like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Mildew ($18).

Hello, my lovelies! Please accept my apologies for being MIA this past week. I was in LA at the E! offices the early part of the week and then I came home with a nasty cold. The only thing that can make me grumpier than being sick is being sick while being pregnant. I just rejoined the land of the living today and I’m ready to get back to beauty bingeing! I have some fun posts planned for the next couple weeks so make sure you check back!
I’m listing this past week’s E! Beauty Police columns. Keep in mind that even though the first half of each column is my snarky analysis, the second half is either a useful Beauty Bailout or Get the Look. For example, in the Karlie Kloss post you can learn how to make your cheekbones look more pronounced and highlight your skin to give it an ethereal glow. In the Beyonce post, you can find out how to fix a common makeup mistake (I’m not telling you what it is because I want you to guess!).

Ladies, please forgive me for being so late with last week’s roundup of my Beauty Police columns. I was rockin’ it out at the Bottlerock Festival in Napa, CA, and by “rockin’ it out” I mean waddling around the festival with a big pregnant belly, huffing and puffing, feeling jolts of back spasms and sore feet. Who knew being pregnant would make my body feel 80-years-old?? We still had a great time but I’m feeling overwhelming waves of guilt for neglecting you, my lovelies! So without further ado, here are all the headlines from last week’s columns:
5/6: Beauty Police: Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke Goes for Drama, Ends Up With a Makeup Tragedy

I had so much fun writing for E! Entertainment’s Fashion Police this week in my new daily column “Beauty Police.” Now, keep in mind E! has asked me to bitchy so don’t strangle me if I’m too tough on your favorite celebrities. But come on… JLo does look like a drag queen in the photo and Rita Ora shouldn’t have left the house looking like that. For copyright reasons I can’t show you the photos on Beauty Binge so I guess you’ll just have to click on the links below to see what I’m talking about! Be sure to check out the last post “Luxe for Less” to see some of my recommendations for best beauty bargains.

Celebrity Beauty Blind Item: Which Starlet Showed Up to the Red Carpet with Bad Mall Hair?
This celebrity, famous for her cat-shaped eyes, past marriage to royalty, and contract with an international cosmetics powerhouse showed up to premiere of her new comedy that stars two of the biggest comedians in the business in a stunning dress, sultry smoked eyes and really bad ombre mall hair. I’m sorry but if you can get the ombre look in a box at your local drug store, the look is officially over, at the least for celebrities. Aside from the awful color, her hair looked dull and lifeless, as though she had been using hotel shampoo conditioner and nothing else for the past month. And she had this strange part down the middle which seemed to accentuate the thinness of her hair and made the style ever more offensive. Her hairstylist needs to be shot or at least demoted to reality TV starlets.

I know, I know… I said I wouldn’t even show Jennifer Aniston’s photos in my Oscars post because I was so disgusted with her “let me just run a brush through my hair and throw on a ball gown” look. But her hairstylist Chris McMillan recently did an interview for People Magazine explaining why he sent her down the red carpet looking so boring, “She wanted to keep the makeup natural and the hair natural. I think it’s about, at this point, being really comfortable on the red carpet.” This was my last straw. It’s intervention time…
Jennifer, please remember I’m staging this intervention because I care. I feel like I’m speaking on behalf of a lot of your fans who are just dying to see you show up on the red carpet again actually looking like you give a shit. You’re obviously a stunning movie star, no one is doubting that. But there was a day not long ago when you would rock an updo and a sultry smoky eye for a red carpet rather than the same hair and makeup as a night out at the local taqueria.
Let’s take a look at you at the Oscars this year:

Oh my lovelies, for those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook you know last night’s red carpet was simply traumatizing for this beauty addict. Where was the glitz? Where was the glamour? Since when did messy matronly updos become an acceptable trend? And where the hell was the red carpet makeup? Based on the majority of looks last night I’m pretty sure the LA makeup artists are on silent strike. That’s the only conclusion I can come to after seeing several starlets whose faces and dresses were both devoid of color. Luckily, a select few of the celebrities rebelled against the boring plague last night by actually showing up in black tie beauty (imagine wearing black tie makeup and hair to the most formal event of the year? How novel) and so yes, I do actually have a fewpositive things to say, but don’t expect too much sunshine and roses. Oh and by the way, in protest I refuse to show you Jennifer Aniston because you could honestly be looking at any photo of her from the past couple years. I just can’t condone it.
