Farewell, Warlock Brows: Sania’s Brow Bar Angled Mechanical Brow Pencil

Haven’t we all been there before? You try filling in your brows just like the makeup artist at the counter showed you and instead of natural-looking bold brows you end up looking like Hannah on Girls, or worse, like one of the models from Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2013:

Girls Bad Eyebrows

Hannah made the tragic mistake of allowing her co-workers to excessively pencil her eyebrows, morphing her once normal brows into the dreaded “warlock brows”

Marc Jacobs brows

Holy brows, batman! I know MJ was going for Edie Sedwick in his SS2013 Collection, but this is just plain scary.

I can honestly say I looked more like the Marc Jacobs warlock last Saturday when I tried to recreate the brows that MAKE UP FOR EVER Makeup Artist Genoa artfully applied at the Make Up Bag Remix EventHow sad is it that I used exactly the same product, Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse ($28) and I watched the video on how to do it and I still ended up looking scary!?! I was obviously a bit too heavy-handed. (Shocking.)

Anyway, you can imagine my glee when Maria told me that when she was on a photo shoot she met Sania Vucetaj (AKA The Brow Whispererwho gave Maria one of her signature brow pencils.  Maria immediately called me declaring the mechanical pencil “the best fucking brow product ever.” I immediately emailed Sania and she graciously sent over a package of her Angled Mechanical Brow Pencils ($25 each)  in several different shades.

What’s so special about these pencils? First of all instead of a point, the tip is angled and flat. I love that the pencil is retractable (with such a funky tip obviously a sharpener would be out of the question), and the tip shape seems to mimic the shape of an eyebrow hair.  Using small upward strokes I filled in my brows and then brushed upward to blend.  Voila!

I asked Sania how she came up with such a genius product:

“I loved using an angled brush with powder but the powder was always too light. I loved the color/pigment of a retractable pencil but the fine point was hard to get right with the shape (especially in the center which is more sparse). So I just combined the angle, pigment, and precision all in one retractable pencil. And the spooley on the other end is super important to blend the pencil. The teeth on the spooley are very tight to help blend it beautifully.”

All I know is that these pencils are idiot-proof (yes I’m calling myself an idiot) and even if you indulge in a few glasses of Chardonnay while you apply your makeup (highly recommended) you’ll still end up with bold, natural-looking brows.

You can also buy it at Bergdorf’s. The hyperlink in the post leads to Sania’s site so you can buy it directly from her. Enjoy!

It sounds great but is it waterproof or water resistant?

Good question! It doesn’t look like it is water-resistant but I have perspired with it on and it’s never melted down my face. With that said, I definitely would not trust it for a beach trip or dip in the pool. Have you tried dying your brows? Once the initial intensity of the color goes down it looks really good too!
