Drugstore Cowgirl: Help! I Left for Vacation Without My Makeup Bag!!!

We’ve all been there before… Okay, in all honesty I haven’t been there since the 10th grade, but let’s face it, I’m not the norm.  My good friend Rachel frantically wrote me from vacation saying she in fact had forgotten her makeup bag at home and she needed a drugstore shopping list from me pronto. Rachel had the right idea in replacing her makeup with drugstore finds. The last thing you want to do is spend a ton of money on dupes of department store and Sephora makeup.  And depending on where you’re on vacation, such luxuries may not even be an option.  So don’t panic! I’m going to get you through your vacation:

Foundation: Do you really need foundation on vacation?? Really?  I personally say skip it but if you insist, try L’Oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Makeup ($10.95) which contains no oils, fragrances, or pore-clogging fillers. It also has skin-loving ingredients like Vitamins A and C, wheatgerm and grape fruit extract. And most importantly, it comes in 33 different shades so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a match.

Concealer: Hands down my favorite drugstore concealer is Neutrogena 3-in-1 Concealer For Eyes Broad Spectrum SPF 20 ($8.99). It drops a lot of pigment without caking or creasing, and covers up the most pesky  dark circles.  And obviously I’m all about the SPF 20 (though I’ll hunt you down and burn your makeup if you think this replaces your daily sunscreen).

Liquid Eyeliner: If you’re lost without your winged eye, try L’Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Black Mica ($8.99).  The felt tip gives you precision and the inky black doesn’t run or feather.

Pencil Eyeliner: If you prefer a pencil eyeliner then you have to go with my longtime favorite (and when I say longtime favorite, we’re talking 6th grade) Wet n Wild Color Icon Liner ($.69). These pencils are highly pigmented and blend and smudge easily. Definitely the best $.69 you’ll ever spend!

Mascara: Clumps begone! CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara ($6.94) does exactly as the name implies. It has one of those magical wands that seems to decimate clumps no matter how many coats you apply. It’s a volume-building mascara without the clumps. What more could you want??

Blush: Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush ($11.95) is one of those universal blushes that gives all cheeks of all skin tones a natural-looking “just pinched”  flush. And yes, the fact that it smells delicious and has cute little hearts makes it that much more fun to wear.

Bronzer:  Rimmel Sun Shimmer Shimmering Maxi Bronzer Sun Queen ($8.49) gives you a sun-kissed glow and enough irredescence to double as a highlighter. Just don’t go overboard with this shimmering bronzer or you’ll find yourself quickly in Bad Halloween territory.

Lipstick: Yes, I know this is going to come as a huge shock to everyone but I still choose Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter ($5.84) as my hands-down favorite drugstore lipstick of all time. Their spectrum of colors range from opaque to sheer and all leave my lips hydrated and nourished.

I know it sucks to have to buy all these new products but it’s not like you have to stash them in a drawer when you get home. Post-vacation put all your new drugstore finds in a small makeup bag and keep them in your handbag for touch-ups (and by touch-ups I mean walks of shame).  Solved!
