Top 5 Outdoor Event Essentials: Don’t Go to a Festival or Ball Game Without Reading!

I know all you ladies on the East Coast want to throw hail balls at me for suggesting “outdoor venues” when you’re being pummeled with rain but just remember, “It can’t rain all of the time.” Soon you will be going to outdoor concerts, sporting events, farmers markets, etc. I swear!  Here on the West Coast I’m gearing up to go to the Bottle Rock Festival in Napa, Valley (3 days of bands like The Black Keys, Violent Femmes, Jane’s Addiction, The Flaming Lips, The Avett Brothers combined with a wine and food festival) and of course I’m already planning my beauty arsenal.

Now, don’t be fooled. Just because I love makeup doesn’t mean I’m going to be slapping it on for an outdoor music festival. Nothing looks worse than melting, runny makeup and I’m going more for the Earth Mother vibe anyway. With my lash extensions, tinted sunscreen and a little lip tint I’ll be ready to rock. Here’s what will be in my bag:

 1. If you read the blog regularly you know I don’t keep my love of this tinted mineral sunscreen a secret. COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 ($36) acts as a physical sunblock as well as a primer, mattifying my skin and filling in pores and lines. I’ll keep it in my bag for touch-ups.

2. Why would anyone want to wear lipstick that’s just going to melt and feather at an outdoor event? I skip the usual lipstick and opt for Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Rosé  ($22.50) which gives me just a hint of just-bitten color but more importantly protects my lips with SPF 15 and treats with “sweet and tart black currant oil, rich in plumping essential fatty acids, protects the lips while antioxidant grapeseed polyphenols, and vitamins A, C, and E provide protection from wrinkle-causing free radicals.”

3. Whether you decide to go flower child like me and skip the makeup or you brave the sun with your usual makeup routine, a good spray is essential. Did you know that if you spray your makeup throughout the day it refreshes it? It also gives you a nice dewey finish. Right now I’m loving Pacific Mist by Marie Veronique Organics ($40) which “replaces moisture in aging skin by delivering potent marine extracts and extra nutrients to the topmost layers of the skin.”  All I know is my skin feels hydrated and glows after a good spritz.  Side Note: If you ever find yourself close to a Auberge Resort, the posh hotel collection has an exclusive with Marie Veronique Organics so you can get a fabulous organic facial using their products.

4. Murad Essential-C Sun Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++  ($25) is by far the best sunscreen stick I’ve come across. I use it on my neck, décolleté, shoulders and arms, and on my husband who refuses to wear sunscreen unless I apply it to him quickly when he’s not looking.  I love the portable packaging and that it provides protection from aging UVA/UVB rays, free radicals, and dehydration. It also has broccoli extract to stimulate skin’s natural defense against UV damage while antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E defend and protect skin’s health.

5. You’re an idiot if you do not have packs of these little magic sheets stashed in every handbag.  Clean & Clear Instant Oil-Absorbing Sheets ($5) are a soft film that visibly soak up shine without smudging makeup or leaving a powdery residue. Hint: Make sure you blot instead of rubbing!
