Fall wedding season has begun and trust me when I say step away from the sex novelty shop (yeah you, Maria; you’re not even shopping for a bride) and drop the Victoria’s Secret catalog, I assure you the new bride would much rather you prep her skin for the big day than receive another slutty cowgirl costume or g-string teddy.
My adorable friend Rachel is getting married (like the movie but this Rachel doesn’t have a promiscuous drug-addicted sister with an ugly dark secret, and I’m pretty sure she’s not having a bohemian experimental jazz wedding) in two short weeks and she knows zero about skincare. Even though she lacks the knowledge, my little lovely still deserves to properly prep her skin for the big day and not have to worry about packing skincare for the honeymoon.
I started out by buying her an adorable hanging waterproof toiletries bag from Toss Designs that I know she can stuff full of items and fold into her suitcase for easy packing. The theme of every item in the kit is “gentle, gentle!!!” because let’s face it, do you really want to be responsible for giving the bride an aggressive skincare product that ends up turning her creamy skin into a red-bumped disaster?? That’s a fun phone call to receive…
1. I couldn’t help but to add some deluxe samples after I took the first photo. Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional (full size $30): Currently my go-to primer for filling in pores, fine lines and giving an airbrushed finish. I’m going to have Rachel apply this after her skincare before she even sits down for the makeup artist. AMOREPACIFIC ‘Time Response’ Intensive Hand Renewal Creme (full size $80): I’m not crazy about the strong smell of this hand cream but I can’t deny it’s long-lasting hydration power that is sure to last our bride through her full day of festivities. Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Vitalizing Eye Complex (full size $125): This is a perfect eye gel for Rachel since it will immediately brighten any dark circles and hydrate the skin without the risk of irritation.
2. I got Rachel all the essentials from the Fresh Soy line because these products will work on even the most sensitive of skins (read: no risk of reaction!) yet are extremely effective. The Fresh Soy Face Cream ($38) is a lightweight daily moisturizer with “protective soy proteins, restorative rose water, soothing cucumber extract, nourishing meadowfoam, and jojoba seed oils that work together to provide moisture and promote collagen synthesis.” I also bought her the mini-version of Benefit Cosmetics Dr. Feelgood ($9) since it’s small enough to stow in her evening bag. It’s like a primer that goes over her makeup to mattify and fill-in those pesky pores and unsightly fine lines, perfect for a bride getting married on the beaches of Malibu.
3. I want Rachel to start using the Fresh Soy Face Serum ($45) as soon as she opens my package to fully reap the benefits of this gentle serum — amino-acid-rich soy proteins which retain moisture and stimulate collagen synthesis, hibiscus peptides to soften expression lines, anise fruit extract to smooth the skin, and cucumber extract to calm and soothe. I’m a longtime fan of the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser ($15) for it’s gentle gel consistency and multi-tasking power (cleanser + toner + hydrator). This is the perfect cleanser for Rachel to use her wedding night to remove all her makeup and leave her skin clean, toned, and hydrated. I personally like to massage the cleanser into dry skin, then add water to lather, rinse, and then use a wet cotton pad to remove any stubborn makeup or grime.
4. Mask time! Now keep in mind the masks I’m giving Rachel are tried and true (in other words, do not give your bride some deluxe samples of a mask you haven’t tried! Too risky!) — Sulwhasoo Skin Clarifying Mask ($39): This has to be one of the most gentle exfoliating, detoxifying masks I’ve encountered. I love the honey-textured consistency and the added honeysuckle for brightening and hydrating the skin. Since the directions are in Korean — Rachel, use 1 packet this week and one three days before the rehearsal dinner. It’s a peel-off mask — apply after you’ve washed your face and leave it on for 30 minutes then peel off. Take a wet cotton pad and swipe the face to remove any remnants. Follow with your serum and cream. On the night before the wedding or morning of, Rachel should use the Hydro Gel Essence Brightening Facial Mask Pack ($3.40) to smother her face in collagen and coenzyme, giving it an instant brightening and plumping effect.
Now, if you’re dead set on giving the bride something sexy, offer her the advice to do her man before the rehearsal dinner to add that ethereal glow that no beauty product could mimic. Voila!Janna Posted by janna Tags Amore Pacific, Benefit, Bride, Fresh, Hydro gel Mask, Sulwhasoo, Toss Designs
