Is anyone else creeped out by the doll makeup trend? I can’t open a magazine without seeing the Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes ads, touting a “flirtatious doll-like look.” This look was also rampid on the runways for the Spring 2012 shows. The models have the dark line above their crease to give them more “doll-like” eyes. Do you really want doll-like eyes? Yes, dolls have long, curly eye lashes but they are meant to look synthetic because they are synthetic. Oh, and that black line you see outlining the eye crease on a doll? That’s not meant to be glamorous, it’s because dolls aren’t real so they weren’t blessed with real eyelids. IF you draw that crease above your real-girl eye crease it just looks weird.
The makeup companies might as well start selling “Lolita Liner,” as part of the “Kinderwhore” color story for Fall. Perhaps they could do a cross-promotional with a clothing store selling velvet dresses with Peter Pan collars, white knee socks, and black patent mary janes. I’ve got it! The campaign could be called PedoStyle!
I’m just not into it, but I’d love to hear what you think.
Whenever I have “Binge or Purge?” in the headline, I want to leave me a comment so I can hear whether you like it (Binge) or hate it (Purge). For example, I know Maria is going to say “Binge”. She already tore out the Lancome ad because she wants to try it on me, but she’s freaky like that. What do you think?
