Sunday Splurge: CHANEL Spring 2012 Makeup Collection

Yes, I want the entire HARMONIE DE PRINTEMPS collection. I started out with just mooning over the LES 4 OMBRES QUADRA EYE SHADOW ECLOSION.   The collection was inspired by the Spring “light of dawn.”  I love the peachy nail polish and the soft reds and corals.

I probably won’t go terribly crazy and buy the entire collection (I do have some self-control).  I do think it would be a crime though not to buy the LES 4 OMBRES QUADRA EYE SHADOW ECLOSION.  The quality of Chanel’s eyeshadows are impeccable.  They work both wet and dry, and they blend well with other brands.  I also want to buy the BLUSH HORIZON DE CHANEL for it’s soft  sun-kissed spectrum, and obviously the peachy nail polish in JUNE.
Do I need all this makeup? Well, no. But, what I do need in the middle of February is to bathe my face in Spring sunshine.  Buying this collection is a lot cheaper than a beach vacation.

Sunday Splurge: Tarte The Starlet Limited Edition Makeup Vanity

I chose the Tarte The Starlet Limited Edition Makeup Vanity as my Sunday Splurge, not because it’s expensive (actually the opposite; $52 for $505 worth of makeup), but because buying it for yourself (and not a gift) is a “splurge”.  It’s not like I am running low on eye shadow.  Plus, I know I won’t use the powdered bronzer or blush (I’m married to my Tarte Cheek Stain in Blissful and my Benefit Cosmetics Hoola). There is also a lash primer and mascara, both of which I gave away (since I have my extensions).  I bought this for myself knowing full well I didn’t “need” it,  but I was simply mesmerized by the 24 eye shadows grouped together by Traditional Smokey Eye, Earthy, Plum Smokey Eye, Blues, Browns, and Pinks.  I could see myself wearing colors from each group.

The box is reminiscent of a jewelry box my grandmother would have displayed with her ornate perfume bottle collection in the fifties.  It’s mirrored on all sides and once you’re done with the makeup  you simply lift the plastic trays exposing a purple satin-lined interior. Adorbs!  But certainly don’t rush being “done with the makeup”.  The eye shadows are to die for… A wide range of colors and textures, and long-lasting.

I am having so much fun experimenting with the different shadows, and I’ve already picked out my palette for the various holidays.  So bring yourself a little pre-holiday  cheer and treat yourself to the Tarte The Limited Edition Makeup Vanity.  And, don’t forget Sephora is having another great GwP event for purchases over $25!

20% Off Bobbi Brown: Time for the Real Beauty Addicts to Show Their Stripes

No three words could make me happier (besides “I love you” from my husband obviously) than “Friends and Family,” especially when they apply to one of my favorite stores or brands, in this case Bobbi Brown.  You don’t even need a code! Simply visit April 16th – 18th and the 20% discount will automatically be applied at checkout.  There is also free shipping after you spend $65.  So what should you buy?  The better question is what shouldn’t you buy. Bobbi Brown is definitely one of the most consistently strong brands across color and skincare.  My top three favorites:

1) Bobbi Brown EXTRA Balm Rinse:  For those of you who follow my blog, you know I call this cleanser liquid sunshine.  It’s smells like fresh oranges and has this wonderful sticky consistency that lathers when you add water.  I put it on a dry face and then gradually add water to lather, and then rinse with lukewarm water. If I’m removing makeup, I’ll use a wet cotton round to swipe my face after rinsing.

2) Creamy Concealer KitMaria always gets mad at me when she’s doing my makeup and I’m out of this concealer kit (you’d think I’d learn to buy multiples).  She’ll start rummaging through my makeup muttering, “Where’s that little kit with the powder?  How are you always out of this?”   The creamy concealer covers everything from puffiness and dark circles to broken capillaries and blemishes. The accompanying powder sets it beautifully without looking cakey or powdery.

3) Eye Shadow in Shell, Black Plum and Sable:  I love the silky feel of these matte shadows.  They blend beautifully and drop a lot of pigment. Shell is a flesh colored pale pink I use all over my lid. Black Plum is a rich dark plum I use in the crease or to create a dramatic smokey eye (plum is a great smokey color for blue eyes).  And I use Sable, a medium brown, to blend into my crease for a day look, or to lighten up an over-smoked eye.

I’m also a big fan of her Shimmer Brick in Bronze for highlighting, and I hear her Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara is to die for.  (Since I wear eyelash extensions I can’t test mascaras. Yes, I have a rough life.)  Don’t forget the binge starts Monday, so use this weekend wisely to start making a wish list. Happy Binging!
