First of all… Happy Valentine’s Day, my lovelies!!! May your Valentine’s Day be full of lots smooches and yummy chocolate!
Getting onto the important stuff… I spent the last 7 days torturing my husband by smooching him with various lipsticks, tints, tinted balms, stains, etc. to find out which products are the most kissable. I saved MAC Lipstick Rebel ($15) for last because it’s the lipstick I’ve been wearing pretty consistently for the past few months for all my nights out. I also saved the Rebel for last because I feared it would stain my poor hubby’s lips, putting a dramatic halt to our challenge.janna Tags Berry Lip, lipstick, MAC, Valentine's Day
Since my husband is probably having nightmares of being attacked by huge red lips and the guys at the office are probably wondering about his faint red mustache these past few days, I thought I would give him a break on Day 6 and go for another sheer. I’ve been using Lipstick Queen ‘Medieval’ Lipstick ($20) for the past couple years to give myself a sheer, sensual, just-bitten look. It’s the ideal lipstick for when you’re rocking a strong eye and you hate the way you look in nude lipsticks (I personally look like a cadaver when I wear a nude). This is the perfect red for first-timers. You know how people say Pinot Noir is the perfect red for first-time red drinkers? This is the perfect red for first-time red lipstick wearers. It’s more of a pigmented balm than an actual lipstick. With its hydrating silky texture, it’s comprised entirely of vitamin E and pigment that leaves a sheer wash of red.
The True Test
I can tell my husband has enough of my hijinks since he’s usually very enthusiastic to kiss me. Every time I approach, he leaves the room. Finally I corner him and lay a smooch on him. Ha! I can’t see anything but a smile on his lips. His lips look great. He eyes me skeptically and heads to the bathroom to remove what he thinks is lipstick and says, “not bad” in his reflection but then wipes off the remains and shows me there is color on the tissue. ”See, there’s still color. But you couldn’t see it because it’s the same color of my lips,” he says, quite pleased with himself for his momentous discovery. Right… “Um, that’s the point honey. It’s a universal color that looks good on everyone’s lips.” And by the way, he did not look like he had anything on his lips post-kiss. He’s just being crusty. Actually, I better take that back since tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day and I’m holding out for purple Calla Lilies and Macarons.

Yes, I’m a bit late on this one (like a day), but with a good excuse, I swear!! I blame my husband’s boss for this one. My poor hubby didn’t get home from work until 9 pm and I had to let the poor guy eat before assaulting him with my red lips. Since I went high-end for Day 4 I thought I would dip into the drugstore treasure trove for Day 5. I’ve been dying to try the Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lip Colour SPF 18 since I heard a lot of good buzz about it so I picked one up in Red Alert at my local Target. I was definitely impressed with how creamy and moisturizing the lipstick was for such a rich pigment. I also love that it has SPF 18, which makes it ideal for every day use. But on to the true test…
The True Test
My husband first exclaimed, “sexy” when he saw me pursing my fire engine lips into a pucker. He changed his position post-kiss when he looked in the mirror and saw that he looked like Ronald McDonald after a street fight (one which he miserably lost) and I didn’t look much better. I looked like a cross between Cat Marnell and a street hooker who got roughed up by her John. In the lipstick’s defense, we did make out a little. (too much information?)
We’ve got another lipstick that I absolutely loved before it went to the smooch battle. I highly recommend this lipstick for work or for a ladies night out (as long as you don’t plan on having any random hookups) but I certainly would stay away from slicking on this bad boy for date night. I regret to say we have another 0/5 smooches.janna Tags lipstick, Rimmel, Rimmel London, Valentine's Day
We’re going high-end lip for Day 4 of our Smooches Challenge with Dolce & Gabbana Monica Voluptuous Lipstick in Magnetic Monica ($33). Let’s face it… nobody screams sexy louder than Monica Bellucci. I can’t promise you’re going to look like Monica when you slick on this voluptuously creamy, pigmented lipstick but you can certainly try channeling her. And don’t think I didn’t try this pose in the mirror several times. Incidentally, I looked like I was self-massaging a neck cramp.janna Tags Dolce & Gabbana, lipstick, Valentine's Day
I got tired of the sheers. It’s time to bring on the color!

As you know from reading yesterday’s post, I’m in hot pursuit to find the most kissable lip product in the 7 days leading up to Valentine’s Day. My husband is a tolerant man but kissing him with lip stains tends to test said tolerance, so as I mentioned yesterday, my first few days of the challenge will focus on sheer colors.

We’re a week away from Valentine’s Day and what better way to piss off your loved one than showering him with kisses full of lip product? Seriously, the biggest trend right now is the Statement Lip but it kind of (operative words being “kind of”) takes away from the fun when your man ends up with a Statement Lip as well. Personally, wild horses (and a crabby husband with pink-stained lips) won’t drag me away from rocking a bright fuchsia lip this season, but even I don’t wear a bold lip every day. Hence, it’s on to find the best lip product for kissing your man. We’ll start out on the sheer side so my husband doesn’t ban me from kissing him by Valentine’s Day.
