Uh oh… This Beauty Addict Went on a Beauty Binge! (Part 1)

I know you ladies must think I’m jaded now that I get free goodies sent to me  from the publicists. But let’s be realistic here… An addict is an addict.  Do you honestly think I will ever get to a point where I look at my room (that’s right room) full of beauty products and say to myself, “I have enough?”  Please.  As a true beauty addict I simply cannot walk past a Sephora, apothecary or makeup counter without making a purchase.  Sure, I can rationalize “it’s for my job” but we all know that if I was in a completely different profession I would be buying the same amount of products (actually I would be buying more because I wouldn’t be getting any freebies).

I blame my latest beauty binge on my friend Cat.  She wanted to introduce me to her friend Connie McGrath, founder of Veer & Wander, a salon / apothecary in San Francisco.  As soon as we walked in the door of the industrial chic apothecary, I knew I was in trouble. It reminded me of one of my former problem
binge spots — Woodley & Bunny — a Willy Wonka of an apothecary carrying independent brands in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Woodley & Bunny is dangerously located 2 blocks from the subway and I would ALWAYS find myself “stopping in” to see if they had anything new, even though my loft was in the opposite direction. Now that I’m in California I thought I would be safe from such temptation. Right…

Not only does Veer & Wander aesthetically look like Woodley & Bunny, but they carry several of the same coveted indy brands like ILIA, RMS, USLU Airlines, and Absolution.  Veer & Wander also carries local skincare lines and my beloved Oribe haircare. So you can imagine it didn’t take me long to start making a pile of products at the register:

1. Absolution Le Soin Regard ($43): Upon meeting Connie, the first thing I noticed was her insanely bright and smooth eye area. I couldn’t look away. Her under eye area literally looked illuminated. She credits her bright eyes to this “anti-aging eye contouring booster.” How could I not buy it?

Product Description: A Certified Organic anti-aging eye contour booster. Le Soin Regard is a unique formula that offers immediate effects and long term benefits against aging. Improves elasticity, smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles, renews radiance and reduces dark circles and puffiness.

Restructures and smoothes thanks to Blue Lotus stem cells fighting against Glycation thereby contributing to cell’s balance while tightening skin. Natural origin Caffeine and Green Coffee extract complex offers a draining and lipolytic action to prevent puffiness.

Chlorella Vulgaris, a river microalgae acting on collagen restructuration and redensifying connective tissues thereby contributing to firming eye contour and reducing dark circles. Mica reflects light, illuminates your skin and optically minimizes the depth of wrinkles.

Results: I like that this formula is thicker and more hydrating than the Rhonda Allison Eye Revitalizer and if definitely gives immediate brightening results.

Verdict: WILL BUY AGAIN

2. Earth tu Face Eye / Repair Serum ($56): Connie also credits her smooth eye area with this oil-based repair serum.  I love that San Francisco-based Earth tu Face was started by  “two herbalists, a garden, and focus on creating a purely plant-based 100% natural skincare line, free of toxins or synthetic compounds.”  Now for someone like me whose 7 months pregnant, you can imagine I’m all about using a natural, gentle anti-ager.  It also smells deliciously of lavender. Yum.

Product DescriptionAnti-Aging + Restorative / Sea Buckthorn + Geranium: An intensive repair serum for the face and eyes. Formulated with organic oils, powerful antioxidants and cell regenerating plant extracts. Rose Geranium improves elasticity, Sea Buckthorn promotes cell regeneration, Chamomile repairs and softens tissue. Highly concentrated antioxidants combat the signs of aging.

Ingredients: Organic Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil, Organic Lavender, Organic Chamomile, Organic Rose Geranium, Organic Ylang Ylang, Non-GMO Vitamin E.

Results: I’ve only been using it for a week so I can’t proclaim it’s softened my fine lines quite yet. But, I do apply it every night and I definitely wake up to a plumped, hydrated eye area.

Verdict: WILL BUY AGAIN

3. Uslu Airlines Lipstick in SIB Sibiti, Congo “Collab” ($25): Like I don’t have enough f’ing lipsticks… Whatever. There was no way I was going to be able to resist this richly pigment, ultra-hydrating lipstick. Not to mention, I’ve never used any of this Berlin-based brand products so I kind of had to give it a try, right? I also love that all the lipsticks are all named after international airports and when the cap is on they look like, well, little vibrators.  What can I say? I’m a whore for cute packaging.

Results:  The color I bought, SIB,  is a collaboration with Berlin based Blogger Mary Scherpe of ‘Stil in Berlin’ and is  a “moody, saturated oxblood.” This is one sexy red.  It’s one of those voluptuous reds that just looks good on everyone. All I know is it’s highly pigmented, long lasting, and hydrating. Winner.

Verdict: WILL BUY AGAIN. (In fact, I’ll probably end up buying in every color)

Okay, this post is getting embarrassingly long… Especially since I still have four more products to review! What can I say? A binge is a binge. I’m going to make this a two-parter so you’ll simply have to tune in next week for the conclusion of my beauty binge.

Have a beautiful weekend, my lovelies!
